Step 1: Start with your favorite roast of coffee beans. Fresh, roasted beans are best for cold brewing.

Step 2: Place coffee in a glass carafe. This will protect the coffee from the heat of the water and keep it from oxidizing. (If you're using an insulated carafe, fill it halfway or even all the way full.

Step 3: Fill the carafe with water and place in the fridge, or add ice.

Step 4: In the morning, strain the coffee carefully and place the grounds in a container for compost.

Step 5: Pour over ice for a refreshing drink.

Step 6: Add milk and sugar to taste if desired.
