Gym bags are traditionally a kind of a "whatever" item in my book. For the most part, in my post-competitive-hoops-playing adult life at least, I've just dragged ass to my workout with whatever rando backpack, duffel, or even market bag I have on hand, and gone about my activities from there with no thought about my water bottle, wallet, or keys having their own spots.

That's right, when it goes to transporting gym gear, I fully participate in chaos not only as a theory, but as a full on situation.

But lately I'm trying to be more organized in a few more facets of my life, and recently decided to apply some of this motivation to my "active gear". Luckily for me, as if by divine Kondo-Schwarzeneggerian intervention, I recently got a chance to test the KNKG waxed canvas gym bag. Here was the excuse I needed to get my workout game headed in the right direction.

Let's take a look at the KNKG Core Waxed Duffel bag.

First Impressions:

So I get a lot of πŸ”₯ stuff via postal service from dope brands, and the items often include nice handwritten notes and elevated packaging. You know, the type of initial presentation you'd expect from the world's best makers. But even though I've become accustomed to a little extra extra, this particular bag outdid itself with the packaging. In fact, it arrived in a big arse wooden box. This is the kind of thing that really puts the icing on the cake of a premium item.

The box is padded on the interior, and I'm using it to store small thingsβ€” jewelry, notes, pens and knives. It's like a huge storage case for everyday carry. Very good for organizing.

Not only that, but this duffel also included a leather wallet that I've also been using. So, two cool items for everyday usage, and we haven't even gotten to the bag itself.

The Bag

Camo can be dope, but like a mustache or an American muscle car, it's hard to get right! Though the waxed edition is is also offered in a traditional brown, I rolled the dice on the camo, and I'm happy to say KNKG nailed it with the look and feel of the waxed canvas exterior. To me, it's giving military camo more than hunting camo, and ya'll know I'm forever down with some infantry vibes.

The material is really nice. I expected it to be a bit more burly, but the waterproof waxed canvas from Halley Stevenson is quite pleasing to the touch and resists splashes nicely.

There are Zippers and pockets in all the right places, and two bottle pockets in front so you can pair your go-to water bottle with a gatorade and forgo the bother of choosing to omit a hydration option.

The bag itself is surprisingly light while still being sturdy. As you'll see, I've ended up using the core duffel extensively outside of the "going to the gym" scenario, and the shoulder strap and carry strap provide an easy 1-2 punch for lugging gear around.

Featuring:

  • Water-resistant Scottish waxed canvas from Halley Stevenson.
  • Genuine Cow leather logo patch and zipper pulls.
  • External weightlifting belt attachment.
  • 13” internal laptop sleeve.
  • Sealed internal shoe compartment.
  • Dual bottle pockets.

Meet My New River Adventure Bag

Here in the Socal mountains in the spring, we get runoff that fills up the local river, creating a playground of rocks and running water. For the past three weeks, I've been spending time up there with the kiddos splashing around while also trying to avoid sunburning or smashing my head on rocks while floating downstream.

My traditional move is to throw a messoftowelsandgear into a rando bag. But with the KNKG duffel, I've suddenly super organized with snacks, towels, bathing suits, sandals, and sunglasses. (Here's where I should also mention that I was also gifted the in-bag duffel-divider along with the bag, and that thing has been clutch when it comes to keeping things organized.)

It's a big deal to be crack my bag rotation

When it comes to bags for my stuff, It can be tough to crack my rotation. Between my Musette Business bag, Doctor's Bag, and stylie backpack, something has to be pretty dope for me to start using it. But suprisingly, the KNKG captured my heart, and has become the bag I've been reaching to to help keep my organization game on point.

I highly recommend picking up one yourself.

Highlights:

Light, looks cool, impeccably designed with well thought out pocket placement for everything you need. This would even be a good bag for airline travel.
