HAVEN has been on an absolute heater lately, and its new Station Jacket Type 01 might be my favorite piece from the Vancouver crew this season.
First of all: grey suede. Come on. The color is killer. Somewhere between graphite, wet concrete and an overcast November afternoon.
HAVEN takes the classic one-pocket trucker shape and makes it considerably more luxurious with beautifully tumbled cow suede that has the soft, slightly beat-up look I usually spend years trying to coax out of a jacket. The hides are drum dyed, which gives the grey some real depth instead of that overly perfect finish that can make new suede look flat.
Hidden behind all that sick suede is a GORE-TEX WINDSTOPPER® membrane, giving the jacket windproof and water-resistant protection. HAVEN has taken one of the least weather-friendly materials in menswear and made it practical wear it when there are clouds outside.Thank you.
The fit is relaxed and slightly workwear-ish, with articulated sleeves, underarm gussets and pleating through the back so you can actually move around in the thing. You also get inseam hand pockets, adjustable cuffs and hem, custom shank buttons and a simple patch pocket at the chest. It’s all made in Japan. But none of the technical stuff is screaming at you.
It still just looks like a very, very good suede jacket.
The price is a fairly heroic $1,830, so we’re obviously not talking impulse purchase territory. But this feels like one of those pieces that gets better every year you own it. Scuffed elbows. Flattened nap. A few questionable nights permanently embedded somewhere around the cuffs. Perfect.
